Setup steps, channel connections and fixes for the Neotask desktop app.

Getting Started

Neotask runs your AI agents from a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. To open your first workspace:

  1. Install: download Neotask from neotask.ai and install it.
  2. Sign in: sign in and finish the setup prompts.
  3. Open Agents: select the main agent and describe the result you need in Chat.
  4. Check Overview: see the agent's scheduled work, sessions and recent activity.

Install steps for each operating system are in the Getting Started guide.

Connecting Channels

Channels are set per agent. Open Agents, select the agent, open its Channels tab and select Add Channel. After you connect an account, select Test Channel. A working account shows Connected and Passed. The Channels guide also covers Signal, Google Chat, email, SMS, Matrix, LINE, IRC and iMessage.

Telegram

To connect Telegram, create a bot with @BotFather and paste the bot token it sends you into Neotask:

  1. Open Telegram and search for @BotFather.
  2. Send /newbot and follow the prompts to name your bot.
  3. Copy the bot token that BotFather sends you.
  4. In Neotask, open the agent's Channels tab, add Telegram, paste the token and select Save.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp connects when you scan a QR code with your phone:

  1. In Neotask, open the agent's Channels tab, select Add Channel and choose WhatsApp. A QR code appears.
  2. On your phone, open WhatsApp and go to Linked Devices.
  3. Select Link a Device and scan the QR code on your screen.
  4. The channel connects once your phone confirms the link.

Discord

To connect Discord, create a bot in the Discord Developer Portal:

  1. Open the Discord Developer Portal and create a new application.
  2. Open the Bot section and select Reset Token to generate a bot token.
  3. Copy the token. In Neotask, open the agent's Channels tab, add Discord, paste the token and select Save.
  4. Invite the bot to your Discord server with the OAuth2 URL generator in the Developer Portal.

Slack & Microsoft Teams

Slack and Microsoft Teams connect through OAuth. On the agent's Channels tab, select Connect next to Slack or Microsoft Teams, sign in on the provider's page and grant the requested permissions. For Slack, Edit Settings lets you limit the agent to specific channels and to specific people in direct messages.

Managing Your Workspace

The desktop app has these main areas. The Desktop App guide covers each screen.

  • Agents: open an agent to chat with it, see which apps and tools it used, and check its Overview for scheduled work and recent activity.
  • Channels: each agent's Channels tab lists its messaging accounts. Test, turn off or disconnect each account there.
  • Approvals: actions waiting for a person. Approve or deny each request.
  • Settings: pick models under Models, Safe Mode under Permissions, data sharing under Privacy and Data, and Gateway checks under Infrastructure.
  • License and Usage: Settings → License shows your plan, status and expiration date. Usage shows credits, model activity and cost by day. Add credits under Settings → AI → Credit top-up.

The Local Gateway

Your agents run through the Gateway, a local runtime bundled with the desktop app. It runs on your computer, accepts connections only from that computer, and restarts on its own if it crashes or stops responding. If agents stop responding, check these screens in order:

  1. Settings → Infrastructure → Connection: confirm the path from the app to the local Gateway, Neotask cloud and connected services. Use Start or Restart under Gateway controls.
  2. Settings → Infrastructure → Health: select Run check to review responsiveness, active and queued work, channels and stability events.
  3. Settings → Advanced → System report: review the live system checks and copy the sanitized report when support needs it.
  4. Settings → Advanced → Troubleshoot: select Check system, then Apply repairs when it becomes available, and wait for the follow-up check.

If the follow-up check still fails, copy the technical output and include it when you contact support. More fixes are in the Troubleshooting guide.

Choosing Your AI Model

Open Settings → Models and choose how Neotask connects to models: Neotask Credits for 400+ hosted models, CLI & OAuth to sign in with your Claude Code or Codex subscription, Own API Keys for provider accounts you manage, or Local models to run models through Ollama on your computer for free. The default model handles work that has no model of its own, and you can assign a different model to an agent or company. See Models & Providers.

Deleting Your Account

Open Settings → Account → Danger Zone → Delete Account in the Neotask app. This deletes your account and personal data and revokes access for the services you connected. It cannot be undone. To keep a copy, export your data from your account settings first. Data Privacy & Your Rights explains what is deleted and what is kept.
